Flight of the Sky Lion is a state-of-the-art flying theatre dark ride located in the LEGO® MYTHICA realm at LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort. Opening on May 29, 2021, as the UK’s first-ever Flying Theatre attraction, this multi-sensory adventure suspends riders high above a massive domed screen to take flight with Maximus the Sky Lion on an epic journey through parallel mythical worlds.

Brogent m-Ride Technology & 180° Gondola System
Unlike traditional dark rides or motion simulators, Flight of the Sky Lion utilises cutting-edge m-Ride hardware manufactured by Taiwanese specialists Brogent Technologies. Guests board 10-seater benches on two levels inside the building. Uniquely, the gondolas initially face away from the screen toward the loading doors.
Once secured, the entire floor retracts and the gondola arms rotate 180 degrees into the centre of a massive 20-metre domed spherical projection screen illuminated by Christie 4K digital projectors. Suspended in mid-air with feet dangling, the gondolas tilt, pitch, and yaw in perfect synchronisation with pure CGI media produced by Pure Imagination Studios and an epic orchestral soundtrack by IMAscore.
Building Maximus: Behind the Scenes
The iconic building facade features an enormous, head-turning 3D model of Maximus the Sky Lion. Built from thousands of individual LEGO bricks with detailed texturing, master model builders spent hundreds of hours assembling and installing the magnificent guardian creature over the entrance.
The Ride Experience & MYTHICA Storyline
The adventure begins in pre-show rooms across two floors, where digital screens introduce Bitsandbobs, a colourful, mismatched winged unicorn, and explain that guests have been invited to explore MYTHICA, a parallel realm where children’s LEGO creations come to life. Guests are assigned numbered floor positions and warned to watch out for the dangerous Chimera.
Once rotated into the portal room, Maximus the Sky Lion scoops up the riders’ gondola and leaps into the central portal:
- Scenic Flight: Soar high over natural landscapes, jagged mountain peaks, lush jungles, and open oceans alongside roaring mythical beasts.
- Sea Dragon Encounter: The flight is interrupted when a two-headed sea dragon attacks, forcing Maximus to set riders down on a sea stack while he battles the sea monster.
- Volcano & Scent Effects: A giant raptor-like creature snatches the gondola and carries it to a volcanic nest. Here, riders smell burning embers and feel heat and wind as Maximus returns to rescue the crew.
- The Chimera Battle: Fleeing through subterranean tunnels, riders confront the terrifying Chimera. A bird of fire and ice helps Maximus defeat the beast, allowing riders to pass safely back through the portal to the human world.
