A great family activity at Christmas time is to make paper snowflakes.
Make Your Own Christmas Decorations
Making paper snowflakes is very simple and rewarding too, all you need is paper, scissors and some festive spirit. Follow our simple guide below to make your snowflakes.
Steps 1 and 2
If you are using a sheet of A4 paper, fold the bottom right-hand corner up to form a triangle (step 1) and cut away any excess paper from the top of the sheet (step 2) so you are left with a triangle.
Steps 3 and 4
Turn your piece of paper around so the long edge of your triangle is on the left-hand side and fold your triangle in half (step 3). Fold it in half again, to make a smaller triangle (step 4).
Steps 5a and 5b
Fold over the right-hand side of the triangle so that the right-hand edge cuts the left-hand side of the triangle in half (step 5a).
Turn the paper over.
Repeat the fold as you did for step 5a, this time on the other side (step 5b).
Steps 6 and 7
Use scissors to cut straight across the top, as shown, so you are left with a thin folded triangle (step 6).
Now you can cut any shape into the folded snowflake, being careful not to make any cuts that go all the way across as this will break your snowflake (step 7).
Your Christmas Paper Snowflake
When you’re happy with your shapes, unfold your snowflake to reveal your finished design!
Once you have the hang of making your snowflakes experiment with different cuts to see what amazing shapes you can come up with.
