Wicker Man is acclaimed for being the World’s first wooden roller coaster to fuse wood with fire but the ride at Alton Towers Resort sadly suffered a real fire on Friday 26th July 2024.
Wicker Man Fire
Wicker Man was evacuated on the morning of Friday 26th July 2024 and fire alarms were activated.
Footage showed smoke rising from the ride’s track, well away from the programmed fire effects of the central theming structure.
“Wicker Man is constructed with treated wood which inhibits fire ignition.
No flames could be seen in the footage, the park issued a statement stating that the fire had been caused by a “foreign object”. Rumours are that the foreign object in question was a disposable vape which had not been securely stored during the ride and had fallen from a riders hand or from their pocket.
Unfortunately, the attraction remains closed and is currently undergoing repair work.

“Two areas of focus are guest experience and colleague experience (frontline to leadership). I want to ensure we’re all passionate about the guest experience, making it magical and ensuring that everyone can be the best version of themselves.”
