Deadly Amphibians
Among the other highlights of Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth are the largest, deadliest amphibians in the world, the poison dart frog and giant cane toad, as well as Nursery displays of baby sharks, cichlids, cuttlefish, coral and tree frogs. The indoor freshwater display boasts Asian short claw otters, while the coral reef hosts angelfish, puffer fish, clownfish, anemone, wrasse, black tip reef sharks, rays, moray eels, crabs, lobsters, shrimps, hermit crabs, giant spider crabs, lobsters and lionfish. Local species include ‘walking’ gurnards, sea bream and bass.
Beach Club Splash Park
A family day out at Blue Reef Aquarium Southsea should also take in the Beach Club, with its man-made Sandy Beach and Splash Play zone, featuring a children’s play area with fountains, water cannon, covered picnic area, grass sundecks, pirates’ bridge and stepping stones it’s just the ticket!
Cool down on hot summer days and play in the sand at the Beach Club splash park. The Beach Club is perfectly located next to the sea and overlooks spectacular views of the Solent! There are plenty of benches to sit at its the perfect setting for adults to supervise.
Travelling to Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth
The aquarium is located on the seafront at the tip of Southsea, Portsmouth, within walking distance of the city’s Historic Dockyard, and Portsmouth Guildhall, making it really easy to find. If you are travelling by car, join the M27/A27 and follow the brown tourism signs to the seafront. Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth does not have its own parking facilities. However, there is seafront parking operated by the City Council along the Esplanade and there are plenty of signs that will direct you to the aquarium.
Travelling by Train
There are regular train services from across the UK. The closest station to the aquarium is Portsmouth Harbour Station, which is about a 30-minute walk away along the city’s picturesque seafront.
