24 Miles of Amazing Scenery
Go on a journey you can’t even imagine where you will experience 24 miles of Yorkshire’s amazing scenery at this must-see visitor attraction. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) runs daily services between Pickering and Whitby, choose between the Seaside Special and the Yorkshire Express. In addition to this, the railway runs a number of events throughout the year.
Pickering Station
Pickering Station is the southern terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, a must-see 1930’s themed station that will transport you back in time to the locomotive steam era.
Hogsmeade Station
A must-see is the celebrity station at Goathland, which became Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film. The charming village of Goathland also featured as Aidensfield in the ITV programme Heartbeat. The village is just a few minutes walk up the bank from the station, with a great range of shops and pubs.
From Goathland, you can explore the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, embark on a country walk along the Rail Trail back to Grosmont or wander down to to the Mallyan Spout Waterfall. Goathland Station has its very own shop and a tea room which is in a converted 1922-style goods shed.

Grosmont Station
Grosmont Station is home to the operating and engineering world of the NYMR. If you are lucky you might be able to catch a sneaky peak at the work taking place on the engines and spot some of the stars from Channel 5’s TV series, The Yorkshire Steam Railway.
Seaside Special
The Seaside Special is a daily Return Service travelling from the historic market town of Pickering to the seaside town of Whitby.
Experience the whole length of the line with a return excursion from Pickering Station to the seaside Fish & Chip capital of the North, Whitby. Head over the captivating 113-year-old swing bridge and along the cobbled streets to reach the breathtaking 199 steps leading up to the world-famous 7th-century, Whitby Abbey.
Enjoy family time playing the 2p machines in the amusement arcades or relax on the golden sands of the Blue Flag awarded Whitby Beach.
Take a walk up to Whitby’s West Cliff where you can enjoy a game of mini-golf and other family attractions.
Yorkshire Express
The Yorkshire Express is a return service running Monday to Saturday from Whitby to the market town of Pickering.
Travelling the entire length of the line, enjoy a return journey from Whitby to the historic market town of Pickering. Pay a visit to Pickering Castle and Beck Isle Museum. Have a walk through the shops which are only a short walk from the railway station. Enjoy a coffee or lunch at one of the local cafes or a pint in the pubs and bars.

Throughout the year, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway run a number of fantastic events. One of the highlights is the Santa Specials where families join Santa and his special team of elves on a magical adventure aboard the Santa Express which will take you on a festive journey you won’t forget.

Travelling to North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR)
There are a number of locations where you can experience the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. If you are travelling by car, Pickering Station is just off the A170 between Scarborough and Thirsk. Use the postcode YO18 7AJ or follow the Brown Tourist signs.
Goathland and Grosmont Stations can be reached from the A169 Pickering to Whitby road or the A171 Whitby to Guisborough road and both are well signposted.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has car parks at Pickering, Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont Stations. Parking is limited and can fill up on busy days, remember to allow adequate time to park, buy tickets and catch your train.
