Built in 1754 Ormesby Hall is a grade 1 listed 18th Century Mansion House in Middlesbrough. Home to the Pennyman family for over 400 years, this classic Georgian mansion has attractive gardens and estate walks. The old servant wing contains a Victorian Kitchen & Laundry along with 3 permanent model railway layouts.
Whats on Offer at Ormesby Hall?
Visitors can experience the spirit of the intimate home of Colonel Jim Pennyman. Jim was the last of the Pennyman line and shared the home with his arts-loving wife Ruth. Visitors can also experience the stylish legacy of the 18th-century character ‘Wicked’ Sir James Pennyman. James got the ‘Wicked’ tag due to his extravagant lifestyle and his gambling with the family fortune.

Family Fun
Ormesby Hall offers a fun day out for the entire family. Family-friendly attractions include a family room, interactive model railways and garden games.
Up until December 2013, the stable block housed the horses of the Cleveland Police Mounted Section.

Family Room
The Family Room provides a hands-on space for children to enjoy. There is a mix of toys and games for babies, toddlers and older children.
Children can play with the train table, building blocks or dolls house. All of the family can dress up as Victorian servants. Why not relax and read a story from the book corner. In the adjacent craft room create a memory of your visit to take home.
Hands on activities
Throughout the mansion house, there are a number of hands-on activities for all ages to enjoy. Visitors to Ormesby Hall can have a go at laying the table in the dining room or help the conservation team. Free children’s trails are available from the Entrance Hall.
On the last Sunday of every month, Victorian Servants bring the house to life and give visitors the chance to experience a servant’s life. Guests can have a go at being a Cook or Laundrymaid amongst other roles.
Model Railways
There are three permanent model railways at Ormesby Hall. Children will love the Thomas and friends interactive model railway layout. It is a fantastic model railway where children can push the buttons to make Thomas and his friends go.
The Gardens
The garden and grounds at Ormesby Hall are fantastic. Out on the lawn, there is a wide selection of Garden Games which the family can enjoy and play together. Wander around the gardens and discover the bug hotel.

Events at Ormesby Hall
Ormesby Hall holds a range of events throughout the year, including 70’s Summer Magic, a 1970s-themed outdoor event. The hall is popular with model railway enthusiasts and occasionally throughout the year, they hold a model railway exhibition. Not only is the model railway exhibition a great day out for children and train enthusiasts.
Ormesby Hall is also the perfect setting for a wedding.
