Pickering Station
Pickering Station is the southern terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This must-see 1930s-themed station is expertly preserved to transport you straight back in time to the golden era of steam locomotives.
Goathland Station (Hogsmeade)
A true highlight for film fans is the celebrity station at Goathland, which famously became Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film. The charming village of Goathland also featured as Aidensfield in the classic ITV programme Heartbeat. The village is just a few minutes’ walk up the bank from the station and offers a wonderful range of shops and traditional pubs.
From Goathland, you can explore the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, embark on a scenic country walk along the Rail Trail back to Grosmont, or wander down to the Mallyan Spout Waterfall. Goathland Station has its very own gift shop and a tea room housed in a charming, converted 1922-style goods shed.
Grosmont Station
Grosmont Station is the heart of the operating and engineering world of the NYMR. If you are lucky, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the vital restoration work taking place on the engines and spot some of the stars from Channel 5’s TV series, The Yorkshire Steam Railway.
Seaside Special: Pickering to Whitby
The Seaside Special is a daily return service travelling from the historic market town of Pickering to the famous seaside town of Whitby. Experience the whole length of the line with a return excursion to the Fish & Chip capital of the North. Head over the captivating 113-year-old swing bridge and wander the cobbled streets to reach the breath-taking 199 steps leading up to the world-famous 7th-century Whitby Abbey.
Enjoy family time playing the 2p machines in the traditional amusement arcades or relax on the golden sands of the award-winning Whitby Beach. Take a walk up to Whitby’s West Cliff where you can enjoy a game of mini-golf and other family attractions.
Yorkshire Express: Whitby to Pickering
The Yorkshire Express is a return service running Monday to Saturday from Whitby back to the market town of Pickering. Travelling the entire length of the line, you can pay a visit to the historic Pickering Castle and the Beck Isle Museum. Enjoy a coffee or lunch at one of the local cafés, or a refreshing pint in the town’s traditional pubs.

Travelling to the NYMR
If you are travelling by car, Pickering Station is just off the A170 between Scarborough and Thirsk (Postcode: YO18 7AJ). Goathland and Grosmont Stations can be reached from the A169 Pickering to Whitby road or the A171 Whitby to Guisborough road. All stations are well signposted.
Please note that station parking is limited and can fill up quickly on busy days, so remember to allow adequate time to park, purchase tickets, and catch your train.
