The Animals
Howletts is home to over 390 animals, including Kent’s only giant anteaters, the largest herd of African elephants in the UK, and more gorillas, leopards and monkeys than any zoo in the county!
There are so many rare and endangered animals waiting to meet you. With new babies arriving throughout the year, there’s always something new to see.
When you visit Howletts, you’ll see not just the only African elephants in the County, but the largest herd of these magnificent mammals in the UK! You’ll discover Western lowland gorillas, Northern Chinese leopards, snow leopards, clouded leopards, giant anteaters, Sumatran tigers, Kent’s only Gelada baboons and so many more.

Walking with Lemurs
You can walk alongside the lively lemurs in their natural leafy enclosure as the playful primates explore the branches overhead. See ring tailed lemurs, crowned and red-bellied lemurs in this ever popular walk-through lemur experience found in the heart of Kent – it’s a must visit!

Animals of the Ice Age
Walk amongst the ice giants and learn incredible facts, which tell the story of the animal kingdom as it was, over 2.6 million years ago. Marvel at the life size prehistoric creatures taking over the Woodland Walk. Wonder at the mighty mammoth, stare at the savage sabre-toothed Smilodon and delight at the sheer size of the giant sloth. With amazing beasts along the trail, there will be plenty of surprises to keep kids and parents on the lookout.
Animal Encounters
If you want to make your day extra special, book in for a close encounter with your favourite animal. Visitors can choose unforgettable experiences including feeding the elephants, going behind the scenes with the gorillas, meeting black rhinos, scattering healthy snacks for red river hogs or even hand feeding anteaters.
The Aspinall Foundation
Howletts Wild Animal Park is part of The Aspinall Foundation, an internationally renowned animal conservation charity that works in partnership with both Howletts Wild Animal Park and Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve. Their mission is to halt the extinction of rare and endangered species and return them to the wild where possible.
Travelling to Howletts Wild Animal Park
Howletts wild animal park is in the South East corner of Kent and lies just off the A2 past Canterbury. It is also a short distance from Folkestone and the southern coast of England. If you are travelling via car use the postcode CT4 5EL.
Travelling by Train
The nearest train station to Howletts is Bekesbourne. We recommend you arrange a taxi for the short journey to Howletts Wild Animal Park from there as the route from the station is not suitable for pedestrians. The attraction is a 90-minute train journey from Victoria Station in London, via Canterbury East to Bekesbourne station., See the Raileasy website for details.
