Dalby Forest Review

Dalby Forest - Beautiful Scenery

If you’re looking for an unforgettable day out in Yorkshire that ticks all the boxes for families, nature lovers, and adventurers, Dalby Forest is a must-visit. Nestled in the stunning North York Moors National Park, this forest offers a wide range of attractions that cater to all ages – from magical trails based on beloved children’s books to bike trails and Go-Ape treetop adventures.

Family Fun in Dalby Forest

Dalby Forest’s main visitor hub at Low Dalby is where your adventure begins. With ample parking, a cosy café, clean toilet facilities, and a helpful information centre, it’s easy to plan your route whether you’re walking, cycling, or simply exploring.

The Dalby Forest Cycle Hub is also located here, offering bike hire and accessories for all ability levels.

Children’s Playgrounds – Hours of Outdoor Fun

Kids are spoilt for choice with multiple outdoor play areas dotted throughout the forest.

Dalby Forest Main Playground

Located just outside the visitor centre, the main Grandfather Oak playground features:

  • A huge wooden climbing structure
  • Swings and balance beams
  • Wooden Teepees
  • Toddler-friendly equipment
  • Plenty of Seating for Adults
  • Steamside decking

Find a nice spot where you can relax whilst the kids can burn off some energy. On our visit to Dalby Forest, whilst our children played, we watched a wild deer grazing in the adjacent field.

Adderstone Play Area

A short drive from the main visitor centre in the Adderstone Woods section of the forest, you will find a more rustic, woodland play experience. This hidden gem encourages natural play and also features a large open field, which is ideal for playing ball games.

Stick Man Adventure Trail

Perfect for little explorers aged 3 to 9, the Stick Man trail is based on the popular Julia Donaldson story. The interactive family trail follows Stick Man on his journey as he tries to get back to the family tree.

The Stick Man activity packs were priced at £4 when we visited. Please check the Dalby Forest Official website for the current prices and availability.

Inside the Stick Man Activity Pack, you’ll find:

  • a Kraft bag to colour in.
  • a Stick Man lanyard to wear.
  • adventure stamp stickers.
  • adventure passport cards to fill in and stick your stamps onto.
  • pencil and crayon.
  • a pipe cleaner to make your own Stick Man.

The Gruffalo Trail – Adventure with a Magical Twist

Dalby Forest also offers a fantastic Gruffalo-themed experience!

Pick up a pack from the visitor centre and discover the Gruffalo Sculptures hidden within the forest. These trails are brilliant for children familiar with the books, especially for those who enjoy a bit of adventure!
