Diggerland Yorkshire Review

During the Easter School Holidays, we decided to pay a visit to Diggerland Yorkshire, which is located only a 30-minute drive from the historic city of York, where we were staying. It has been a couple of years since we previously visited Diggerland, with our last trip being to Diggerland Durham.

Diggerland Parks

Diggerland Yorkshire is not the only Diggerland Park, they also have parks in Durham, Kent and Devon. All four Diggerland parks offer a similar line-up of rides and attractions. Each of the parks is primarily aimed at children between 4 and 14 years of age, however, visitors of all ages will enjoy a great day out.

Diggerland Yorkshire Review

If your family is looking for a day out with a difference, Diggerland Yorkshire promises an action-packed experience where children and adults alike can operate real construction machinery in a safe and fun environment. Located in Castleford, West Yorkshire, this unique theme park combines the thrill of amusement rides with the novelty of diggers, dumpers, and construction equipment — making it an unforgettable day out for budding builders and curious minds.

Like all the Diggerland Parks that we have visited, Diggerland Yorkshire is a very compact setup with the entrance to each ride adjacent to the next one. The advantage to this is that if you choose to do different rides you are never far apart from each other.

A Playground Full of Diggers and Drives

Diggerland Yorkshire boasts over 20 different rides and drives, all centred around real JCBs, excavators, and construction vehicles that have been specially adapted for visitors of all ages. Here’s just a taste of what you can expect:

Spindizzy

One of the first attractions to greet you as you enter the park is Spindizzy. If you’re brave enough, step into the bucket of the large JCB digger that will swing you high into the air and spin you around. It’s a unique adrenaline rush that’s not for the faint-hearted!

Drive a Dumper Truck

Children over 100cm tall can take the wheel of a dumper truck and navigate a specially designed course. Don’t worry — friendly Diggerland marshals are always on hand to ensure safety.

Skyshuttle

You can see people enjoying a ride on the Skyshuttle from all areas of the park. Jump on board the Skyshuttle ride and witness the world from a whole new perspective. You are gently lifted 50 feet into the air by a giant telescopic boom, presenting you with incredible views of the park and the surrounding Yorkshire countryside.

Buried Treasure

Use the controls of a mini digger to scoop up sand and hunt for hidden treasures. It’s trickier than it looks but hugely satisfying once you master the controls.

Skittles

Skittles is a test of your concentration, hand-eye coordination, and patience. Take control of your mini digger and use the wrecking ball to knock down all 10 skittles.

Robots

Enjoy an exclusive ride in a JCB Skid Steer, commonly known as JCB Robots, and embark on a thrilling adventure around the specially designed course.

Joyrider

Hold on tight as the kids take control of a full-sized family car around the specially designed track. This attraction is suitable for anyone up to the age of 17.

Attractions for All Ages

While much of the park is geared towards children aged 4 and above, there are plenty of activities suitable for adults, teenagers, and younger children. In fact, many adults are surprised to discover they enjoy operating the machinery just as much as (if not more than) the kids!

Diggers of All Shapes and Sizes

At Diggerland Yorkshire, visitors are treated to an incredible variety of diggers of all shapes and sizes, offering a unique hands-on experience with real construction machinery. From towering 20-ton excavators to nimble mini diggers, the park is a paradise for anyone fascinated by big machines. You can try your hand at operating everything from giant JCBs used to dig deep trenches, to tiny skid-steer loaders perfect for precise scooping and manoeuvring. Whether you’re steering a full-size digger to scoop up earth or delicately picking up rubber ducks with a mini digger’s claw, the wide range of machinery ensures there’s something for every age and ability. Each machine has been specially modified to ensure safety while still providing a genuine and thrilling construction-site experience.
