An Interesting Choice for a Night Out
Myself and my friend were really looking forward to visiting Sixes Social Cricket, but when our partners told their colleagues at work that we were taking them for a night out playing cricket the common response was “that’s an interesting choice for a night out”.
Their work colleagues may have been right in that it was an interesting choice for a night out but I don’t think any of them realised just how much fun can be had at Sixes Social Cricket as we discovered when we paid a visit to their venue in Headingley, Leeds.
Non-Stop Action
The beauty of Sixes Social Cricket is that you don’t have to worry about bowling or standing around fielding, it’s non-stop action. Basically, you hire a cricket net for either a 30-minute or 1-hour session and take turns hitting the balls at the various targets dotted around inside the net. The more challenging the target, the more points you score.
What to Expect
At Sixes Social Cricket, you are allocated a cricket net and an adjacent seating area where you can relax with a drink and food between turns. Before you start your session the host explains the basics of the game and will help you set up each of your profiles. To help make the game fair for all players you can change the difficulty setting from beginner through to expert. If you find it is too easy or too hard once you start playing you can tweak these settings during the game. There are a number of games to choose from but as it was our first time our host recommended that we play T20. If you wish, you can change to an alternate game at any point during your session. The game we played worked really well for a group of 4, each player was bowled 6 balls before switching to the next player, giving you enough time to chat between goes but also keeping you involved in the game.
Interactive Fun for Everyone
Within the cricket net there is a selection of bats to choose from so no matter how tall you are there is a bat to fit your requirements. Everyone’s scores are clearly displayed on a screen outside the net and there is an iPad type device adjacent to the door which allows you to change the game, tweak your settings and displays how much time is remaining. If someone is engaged in a conversation or otherwise occupied you can click a button and skip their turn so you are not wasting your session time.
Food and Drink
There is a bar only a short walk from the nets but the staff were very attentive and regularly asked if we needed anything. They were happy to take our orders and supply drinks so we could play our game without any interruptions. We also got a large pizza as part of our package which was perfect for sharing and tasted great.
A Great Night Out With Friends
We all had a great time, but what took us most by surprise was just how much the girls enjoyed it. They both got to grips with the game immediately and were scoring points on every turn beating both myself and my friend by quite a margin.
