Gold Rush is a groundbreaking steel family launch roller coaster located at Drayton Manor Resort in Staffordshire, England. Built as the flagship attraction inside the Wild West-themed Frontier Falls area, Gold Rush is Europe’s—and manufacturer Intamin’s—first family roller coaster to feature both a lift hill and friction wheel launches in the same ride layout, alongside a multi-experience switch track configuration that varies the ride sequence throughout the day.
Gold Rush at Drayton Manor: Frontier Mining Thrills
Set against the backdrop of an old-timey frontier town, Gold Rush takes riders on an exhilarating adventure through an active gold mining operation. Engineered with a low-to-the-ground track design and single-backbone rail tech, the coaster delivers rapid twists, airtime hills, sudden directional shifts, and immersive indoor dark ride scenes inside a dynamite-filled mining shed.

Multi-Experience Sequence Technology
What truly sets Gold Rush apart from any other roller coaster in the world is its ability to alternate between two completely different ride sequences at the flick of a switch. Operating via a massive 18-ton triple switch track system, the coaster changes how riders navigate the layout during operating hours.
Sequence 1: Forward Lift & Backwards Launch
The train climbs the lift hill in the classic forward direction before descending into the dynamite launch shed. Inside, a friction wheel launch propels the train backwards up the rear of the lift hill, stall-reversing back down to launch forward across close-to-ground banked turns.
Sequence 2: Backwards Drop & Forward Boost
The train is pulled backwards up the lift hill and released in reverse. Arriving at the launch shed, riders receive a sudden forward launch sending them flying through the lift hill structure and into the main layout.
