First built in 1923 by John Miller, Big Dipper is a wooden out and back roller coaster. The classic ride was extended in 1936 by Charlie Paige and Joe Emberton adding arches over the south entrance of the park and additional drops. The historic ride which features five awesome drops and a host of twisting and banked turns was designated as a Grade II listed building on 19 April 2017.

A Roller Coaster Ride with a lot of History
The ride was first built in 1923 by William Strickler but was extended in 1936 by Charlie Paige and Joe Emberton, adding arches over the south entrance of the park and additional drops.
In August 1998, American Richard Rodriguez set a world record by continuously riding the Big Dipper for over 1000 hours, he then went on to double this mark two years later to 2000 hours!
The ride was designated as a Grade II listed building on 19 April 2017.
The 10 Oldest Roller Coasters in the World
Big Dipper at Blackpool Pleasure Beach is amongst the 10 oldest Wooden roller coasters in the World. The iconic ride has suffered the odd accident and on the 26 June 1975 part of the main lift hill and first drop, was severely damaged by fire. Thankfully the ride was repaired and continues to operate. The ride will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2023.
