Sik at Flamingo Land Resort in North Yorkshire is a spectacular £18m thrill ride. Featuring 10 inversions and a lap-bar-only restraint system, this multi-inversion steel coaster is one of the premier extreme rides in the UK.
The Sik Roller Coaster at Flamingo Land
The Sik roller coaster officially opened to the public on Saturday 2nd July 2022. It represents a three-year planning collaboration between Flamingo Land owner Gordon Gibb and the Yorkshire-based streetwear brand, Sik Silk. Featuring a pulsating nightclub-style station with dance music and disco lighting, the ride brings a highly energetic atmosphere to the park.
Sik shares a similar track layout with Colossus at Thorpe Park. Both were manufactured by Intamin and feature exactly 10 inversions, although Sik utilizes modern lap-bar restraints for improved rider freedom and comfort.

Sik Flamingo Land Height Restrictions
To experience the intense heartline rolls and high-velocity cable lift safely, there is a strict Sik height restriction of 1.40m (4ft 7″) for all passengers. Before opening, initial technical test runs using half-body water dummies showed some falling from their seats through the inversion sequences! Fortunately, this was simply because the dummies lacked legs for the lap bars to secure properly. Today, the modern restraints keep regular guests perfectly safe while maximizing hangtime.

The Ride Experience and Theming
The queue line for Sik makes its way directly underneath Velocity, the UK’s first and only motorbike launch coaster. Once strapped in, Sik offers an incredibly thrilling ride experience with awesome hangtime through each inversion, supported by the sheer pace it keeps throughout the track layout. The mist tunnels positioned around the cobra roll and at the end of the ride add a fantastic sensory touch.
A Historic Journey to North Yorkshire
Before Flamingo Land acquired the coaster, it was originally manufactured by Intamin for the Hopi Hari Theme Park in Brazil. Due to financial issues, Hopi Hari was unable to construct the ride. After spending several years in storage and undergoing a complex leaseback arrangement in South America, Flamingo Land Resort successfully purchased the ride and brought it to North Yorkshire.
Interestingly, Hopi Hari is also home to Katapul, which operated at Alton Towers during the 1990s as the legendary Thunder Looper!
